Long winter train journeys through Norway bring more variation of landscape and light than one might at first imagine. But linking them all—fell, lake and farmland—is the conifer and birch. This work is from the area between Lillehammer and Oslo in 2008: photographed from a moving train using a studied combination of exposure and movement to capture a sense of the ever present woodland passing over soft, illuminating snow.

Shot in colour, the images are naturally monochrome—a unexpected but delightful result of this experimental technique.
